The Devoted Friend

The Devoted Friend by Oscar Wilde is a very great story and i quite like it. At the beginning there was three characters - Water-rat, which doesn't really liked kids, duck, which wanted to learn little ducks how to stand on their heads in the water and the linnet, which told the story.

So linnet starts to tell a story about two best friends, little Hans and big Hugh the Miller. Little Hans was a devoted friend of the Miller. The Miller was quite greedy because he asked little Hans lot of things that he don't really wanted to give him. Little Hans did everyting that the Miller live great: gave him what he wanted, but the Miller gave little Hans only wheelbarrow and everytime he reproved wheelbarrow to little Hans.  This story reminds me Carlson, who lived on the roof film. Just because the Miller took precedence over little Hans. In the end, the Miller told little Hans that his son fell off the ladder, so little Hans went to safe him. But he died. It was awful ending in this story.

Questions:

  1. What are the animals talking in the beginning of the story?
  2. What does the author (Oscar Wilde) wants to tell the reader (what is the moral of the story)? Why?
  3. What are the animals discussing in the end of the story? What are their emotions/reactions?
  4. What are your thoughts and feelings after the story?

  1.  They are talking about their children and about friendship. White-rat says, that there's nothing rarer than devoted friendship. And then linnet volunteer to tell a story on the subject.
  2. Love is all very well in its way, but friendship is much higher. There is nothing either nobler or rarer than a devoted friendship.
  3.  They listened all story to the end and was surprised. Linnet says, that water-rat didn't quite see the moral of the story. So water-rat got a little bit angry, and then he shouted ''Pooh'' like a critic, who was walking around the pond with a young man.
  4.  I loved this story, because it was awesome. Very good ending and all story, involving too. It is an example of real texts and stories. Good job on this story.
